On top of that drama(that we will not be talking about thank you very much) I got sick in New York, and I'm STILL a little bit ill. Not much, but like... It's been difficult

Some motorsports fans are so annoying

Like I'm sorry I watch and (debatably)enjoy F1 and not some niche rally that happens once every 6.7 years on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean that is only available to be watched on a vimeo livestream and everyone drives a specific model of a car that hasn't been in production since the 80s

Like fine, you win, you're better than me. I'm lame and I watch Formula 1, start throwing the stones at me already

But all jokes aside, some people are so fucking rude and condencending about watching sports. Like no shit I don't want to watch whatever it is that you're watching if you act like a dick about it

When people genuinely explain other sports to me and want me to be engaged and are enthusiastic about their interests then I'm more likely to watch

But if they come at me with this snob attitude and tell me about how "F1 is sooo boring, nothing ever happens" and "oh, stick to that, this other sport is way too complicated and interesting for your simple mind" I'm just gonna stick to F1 even harder and not even give others a chance because why tf would I want to?

So I've decided to take a little break from tumblr

I won't be gone forever, I just figured I'd make a post if anyone has been wondering about my whereabouts

I've honestly lost pretty much all motivation, and I'm also very drained from my trip

I will return however! I still love F1 and the community here and making content and so on

I just need a little time for myself, to get my life together and let myself rest, before returning here

Feel free to leave asks in my inbox if you'd like, I will get to them(and the ones already there) once I return

I will still be here every now and then, liking posts and maybe commenting, but I won't be posting

I always say I'm going to post my fics on AO3 eventually, but like... there's been MULTIPLE recent situations where rpf fics have 'broken containment' so to say, and been introduced to mainstream audiences and honestly it's just giving me so much anxiety. Because like I don't want people who don't understand rpf and fanfic to see the stuff I create. LET ALONE anyone who is actually involved with the people I write about, or god forbid the people themselves. That's like my worst nightmare. So idk. If I do post them there I will lock them all but there's still no guarantee that they won't be seen by people who I don't want seeing them. Then again Tumblr really isn't safe either, arguably even more unsafe, but at least here the only people seeing the stuff I write are mostly just my own little audience

As a non-Finnish person, this is the first I'm hearing about the required Swedish thing, and it sounds SO dumb? Like, the language doesn't have nearly enough speakers to justify that. And, I'm American so I do accept I may have bias, but it seems more logical to learn English as I think you're more likely to encounter an English-speaker than a Swedish-speaker literally anywhere except Sweden.

That really sucks.

That's exactly my thought process as well!

And out of curiosity, I looked it up

The amount of people who speak Swedish as their first language is 5.1% of the population

And the amount of people who speak another language than Finnish, Swedish or Sámi(like Russian people or immigrants and refugees) as a first language is over twice that, at 10.8%

Also most Swedish-Finns do speak Finnish according to Google, at least the ones that live in Finland

And I've also spoken to some Swedish people over the internet, as has my friend, and both of us had no issues communicating through English

So I'm not saying it's useless, but... I kind of am

I fucking HATE having to learn Swedish

I hate it so so so so so much

If you weren't aware, Finland was colonised by Sweden from like the middle ages to the 1800s, so now we have to learn it in school. It's mandatory, even in high school/college(I'm not sure about the translation on this) where you pick your own courses and six subjects that you write/have a final essay/test on to graduate. Mandatory things are Finnish language(duh) and also either math or Swedish. I suck at math, so that's not even an option. I'm horrible with numbers and just can't wrap my head around it. So I have to learn Swedish to graduate. I've been barely passing all the mandatiry classes so far, but if you write a subject you have to take extra courses, and I'm not even done with the mandatory ones.

Fuck my life honestly

I'm not going to do anything with it. Like yeah, Swedish people speak Sweden, and Swedish-Finns, but in the rest of the world it's pretty much useless. Like pretty much everyone speaks English nowadays. Including in Sweden

"But what if you go study in Sweden?" I won't. I'm not doing that. I'm either studying in Finland or going to Scotland with my friend. Or some other Engish speaking country.

"What if you get a job where you have to speak Swedish?" I won't do that either. The career paths I'm interested in have nothing to do with it.

"How will you communicate with Swedish people and Swedish-Finns?" With English. Or Finnish if they know it.

I just think it's stupid. We used to be under Russia's ownership too, but that isn't mandatory. And it was more recent than with Sweden. And there's Russians and Russian-Finns in here.

I just don't get it. And maybe that makes me ignorant but honestly I despise it and mostly everyone else does as well.

I should've just gone to vocational...
