I found myself at Joe’s Place again this year, up in that quiet corner of Strummerville — my favourite place in the world, where everything feels lighter, softer, more real. I go every year. It’s not just a ritual anymore; it’s a return to myself.
There’s something sacred in the air up there. Not in a loud, showy way, but in the way the sun filters through the trees just right, and music wraps around you like something ancient and familiar. It feels like the world exhales. Like love lives there, unbothered and wild.
I got a little drunk. The kind of drunk that makes your cheeks ache from smiling. I wandered between voices and melodies, holding vegetable spring rolls like they were a gift from the gods, laughing with strangers who felt like old friends. And God, the music wasn’t just sound. It was feeling. It moved along the wind.
There were moments where time felt like it bent. Where I looked around and thought, this is what it means to be alive. Not in the big, loud ways but in the quiet pulse of joy, in the soft certainty that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
It was beautiful. Beyond beautiful.
It felt like the universe pulled back its curtain just a little, and let us see something holy.
With love,
A very happy girl. 🖤

Sometimes I imagine if I ever got to Strummerville (which is unlikely...) I'd probably be curled up in the grass crying my heart out for the entire fest instead of enjoying the event and celebrating Joe's spirit like others do. 😔💚❤️🧡💛🖤🤷
Joe Strummer died 15 years ago today. Everyone who valued him, and those of us lucky enough to know him—maybe we all felt cheated when he died. He was a wise young man; we can only imagine what a great old man he would have become. Most days I still find myself thinking what would Joe Strummer do? When I learned that it was his heart, that it could have taken him at any time during his 50 years—well, we were lucky to have him as long as we did. Joe Strummer wore that brave, damaged heart out. He’d given more love to the world than the average ticker could ever manage. The Joe-shaped hole in the universe is enormous. Joe, Joe, Uncle Joe. Hugs and kisses. Love always. I miss you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE STRUMMER “Strummerville Concert 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP0oAQrsbmI&t=3s
…Today is the birthday of Joe Strummer, co-founder of The Clash. Their explosive lyrics and rebellious attitude had a far-reaching influence on popular music, and their musical experimentation included funk, rap, reggae, ska, and rockabilly. Joe had a fascinating life and said The Beach Boys, Woody Guthrie, and Little Richard inspired him to get into music. Beyond The Clash, Joe stayed very busy until his untimely death (at age 50) in 2002. Here’s a clip from a 2012 Clash tribute concert for a charity called Strummerville. I played keyboards with a stage band that included “The Punk Brothers” Ed & Marlon Daranciang, Prairie Prince, and Chris von Sneidern—who looks like he could’ve been in The Clash.
