I’d like to give a shout out to Tampa Bay Rays owner, Stuart Sternberg.  You’ve put together a great baseball organization and have put an amazing baseball product on the field.  I love watching the “underdog” Rays defy the odds every season and I’m pretty sure I know that thousands more in Western New York would agree when I say we would love to prove to you that Buffalo is the BEST city to relocate to in the country.  Sure Pittsburgh is listed as number one but they already have a major league baseball team.  Wouldn’t you like those inter-division road trips to be nice 1 or 2 hour trips to NYC, Toronto, Boston, and Baltimore?  Buffalo is central to all of them.  Wouldn’t you like a fan base that is more starved and rabid for a winning team than anywhere in the country?  We still show up in droves to Bills games despite not having been in the playoffs since the 90’s.

Not only are we the 2nd best city to relocate to our fans football fans are ranked only second to Green Bay fans.  Not to mention everyone and their baby and their grandma wear blue and gold year round in support of their Sabres.  We freaking love sports here in Buffalo.  It’s kinda what we live for here.

Oh did I mention we have a really cool historic looking baseball stadium built in the middle of downtown?  Sure it will take some renovations to bring it up to MLB standards but renovations were in the initial plans when Buffalo built the stadium to attract an MLB team in the early 90’s.  I’m sure a renovation of this already beautiful park would be a lot cheaper and easier to pull off than your fictional new stadium you’re not even allowed to move to in Tampa.

Looking to partner up with some other rich fellows to help make your dream stadium renovation in Buffalo come true?  Look no further than our plethora of sports passionate(yes we LOVE sports here) billionaires.  Have lunch with Terry Pegula(Buffalo Sabres), Robert Rich, Jr.(Rich Products & AAA Buffalo Bisons), Blase Thomas Golisano(Former Sabres owner and recent bidder on the LA Dodgers).  Lots of potential business partners with deep pockets and they all live in Florida so you can still have those power lunches under the sway of palm trees.

AND finally for kicks we are just a few hour drive from Toronto!  The Rays and Blue Jays could have a cross town/border rivalry!  Forget the Yankees and Red Sox how about the Jays and the Rays?

We drafted Evan in 2006 with the belief that he and the organization would grow with each other and together accomplish. That is why the Rays and Evan signed a long-term contract in 2008, and it is why we are extending our commitments today. Evan has clearly become a cornerstone player and a fixture in our organization. We are proud of what we have accomplished these past seven years, and I expect the best is yet to come.

Fans have to stop behaving as if Sternberg is standing in their driveway calling them deadbeats. He is not blaming teachers or truck drivers or retirees. He is saying his team does not generate enough revenue to keep up with 90 percent of the other major-league teams. And that's a legitimate complaint. On the other hand, Sternberg needs to be clearer when framing his argument. He needs to spend more time in the community, and he needs to talk more openly so fans understand exactly what it is he is trying to get them to see.
