Many Years Ago
Hi everyone!
I thought I would share a story since this is the reason I have tumblr. I grew up in a quiet small town outside of Pocatello, called Chubbuck. It was the best neighborhood ever. Everyone knew everyone and kids would play in the streets or be out past nighttime and parents didn’t have to worry about them. Anyways, my house was on Henry a cute 5 bedroom house. My dad worked at the Union Pacific Railroad as a welder and my mom stayed at home. My parents loved eachother very much and met in highschool when my mom moved from Utah to Pocatello.
There was this park called Stuart Park….best park ever!!! It was right below the canal and every summer a couple times the canal would be drained to irrigate the park and we had such a blast. We would pretend it was a swimming pool and pull ourselves with the grass, or just play in the water. Our bus stop was at Stuart Park as well. It wasn’t a long walk maybe 4-5 minutes, during the winter we would slide our way so it cut it down to like 3-4 minutes. Every kid knew eachother and we all went to Rulon Ellis Elementary. It was an awesome school and I went from K to 6th grade. I remember all my teachers names and even the principals name. Anyways back to Stuart Park. They had a play ground there, it was huge just enough to keep kids occupied. It had a huge slide, merry go round, swings and a couple other things. I spent many of summers there. They had a pavillion full of metal tables and my tongue has many of scars from playing on them and falling and bitting my tongue. That is a story all in itself. What a blast this park was. It was right across from the church I use to go to, but that is a story all in itself, for another time perhaps. The park had a baseball field, and a tennis/basketball court. We would ride our bikes in the tennis court or pretend we were playing tennis in Wimbledon…. Kids and their imagination was so impeccable, we could do or be anything we wanted. One day I would like to bring my son to the park and show him all the things I use to enjoy, the park was a safe haven for many reasons and I will always have a place in my heart for it.
