I want to share an experience with all of you. Take this as a reminder that you have no right to make fun of someone, if you are hurting them. Even if it’s something they can or cannot control. Here’s my story:

Today, I was texting with a friend (we’ll call him Luke, for the sake of this story. His name isn’t actually Luke) and got talking about work. I was telling Luke a story about how when I get into work tomorrow, I have like 6 emails to write. He asked me why I had so many. I told him the story of the hate I received at work on Wednesday.

I was at work (the second job. I have to make insurance claims) and needed to call one of the companies because I was having issues submitting the claim. An older lady picked up the phone and I explained the situation I was facing with submitting the claim. She literally said to me “Fix your voice or you’re going to have to email me. Your voice is very distracting.” For those who are new here, I have a stutter, which makes it’s appearance when I’m stressed, tired or nervous. I was tired and stressed that night. I immediately hung up on her

I wrote the woman’s name down before we started our conversation, so I will go in on tomorrow and write an email to the company describing my experience with this woman.

But I want to thank Luke for typing the one thing that kept me from crying while telling him this story. “It’s never okay for anyone to do what that woman did. You know you can text me, call me whenever you need”

so thank you Luke. It means more than you will ever know and I’m immensely grateful to know you and call you a friend.

Do you ever say something and stutter so badly or mess up what you were going to say so hard it sounds like you're a stroke victim? Yeah that happens to me a lot and it makes me so mad! I actually really have a really hard time saying certain words and phrases. Like for example on Saturday I tried to say "kitchen junk" and I stuttered so badly I couldn't even get any of the words out. I think the boyfriend questioned my intelligence for a second there.
