For context, where I am living has both a cost of living crisis and a severe lack of student accomodation or the prices are sky high. I mean like €1,500-2,000 monthly rent ON AVERAGE if you're lucky.
Anyways. I'm looking for accomodation for the next academic school year. I've looked through all the websites, through all the offical recommendations etc. Basically I've tried a lot, if not everything AND IT IS NOVEMBER, MY FRIENDS. There should be accomodation ready for students to book or at least get more info on but no. There is JACK SHIT.
My countries government has ignored the students pleas and protests for like what? 4 years now and ever since covid it got so much worse. I LITERALLY SAW A GARDEN SHED REMODELED INTO STUDENT ACCOMODATION ONLINE. That is not accomodation my dudes. I swear this country makes me want to move out and drop out but I can't Because next year is my last year.
I wasn't even able to get accomodation this year because there wasnt any afforable housing for my work placement and I have to commute on average 2-3 hours a day by bus. Next year, if i stayed where I am now. I'd have to commute 4 hrs daily.
It's actually tragic that this is happening and the government won't do anything. Though I'm not suprised considering the state we're in right now.
Part of the former Chippendale Public School (1883), now used as student accommodation for the near-by University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Heritage Listed. Chippendale.
When starting uni, if you feel like the type of person who will get sad or jealous or feel like you’re missing out... MOVE INTO STUDENT ACCOMODATION
I didn’t because I live so close to my university already and it is my biggest regret thus far. People say it’ll be fine and you can move out whenever during university, but I’ve not found opportunities of finding a flat mate etc because people at uni find their flat mates in first year and 9/10 times stick with the same people!
So do yourself a favour and if you wanna move out, no matter what people say like “you’re not ready to move out” if that’s what you want to do? Go and do it!
covid-19: *exists*
student accomodation: is this an excuse to do the bare minimum for our students?
Why my house is falling apart this week:
- thermostat got replaced and the person fixing it said it was the oldest one they’d ever seen.
- the oven broke and we are waiting for it to be fixed
- roommate number 1’s bed frame has broken
- still no replacement hoover
- and to top it off, my curtains fell off the wall last night
Anything else wanna go wrong this week?🙄🙄
Sometimes I look cute as fuck.
