Heya! I saw your email for juniors lmao, I just wanted to ask about your theatre/performing arts department? I never really got the chance to do that sort of stuff in middle school and high school, so I was wondering if you guys have any beginner-level groups? (although i'm probably not gonna get into MIT :(( I still wanted to ask)
hello!! first of all, HEY believe in yourself!! i’m sure you’re v v capable and qualified :)
as far as performing arts goes there’s definitely groups of all levels! this applies to theatre, a cappella, dance teams, etc. i personally am not in any of these groups but i have a lot of friends who are trying these activities out for the first time in college and are really enjoying it!
my dorm has groups called next sing and next act that you “audition” for but they take everyone and produce their own shows and things, and there are dance groups like dance troupe and asian dance team which are also v beginner friendly. there are also groups like syncopasian and ridonkulous which are more advanced, so v wide range!
personally this was/still is one of my favorite things about mit. the culture is so inclusive if you want to try new things and you don’t have to feel pressured to be “good at” something or have a ton of prior experience to do it. do whatever makes you happy and have fun! :)
It wasn’t meant to be a serious flag or banner. It wasn’t meant to be anything but a joke. But when someone taped it to Battery’s door, everyone knew it was a reference to their “hobby” as one of the Knights on campus. No one could have expected so many to take to it so readily. Of course, they didn’t actually carry it as a banner or make it into tee-shirts. A Fairy circle cross cut by what were assumed to be lines of salt and iron is the sort of attention you don’t need.
But it is said that some had it made into small banners, bandana sized, maybe, just enough to hold up in the air and make your identity known should you stand to protect someone.
So it became said that what was a joke became both a target and a shield.
So it became lore.
And so it was.
