Story Time
Alright so I had a teacher in the eigth grade. She was a science teacher of 60 years old. Had only 25% percent hearing in one ear and 75% in the other. In my opinion she shouldn't have been teaching anymore.
Right off the bat she made my class nervous. She said we'd be doing things her way and that there would be no other way. In an alternative school of a hundred students stuck in uniforms with no real way to express ourselves, this didn't go over well.
But we kept quite, this school was known for its difficult teachers and we knew nothing could be done. We endured the insanely difficult notes and the ass-backwards explanation of them. We endured her basically calling us stupid. We endured her favoritism (me for example although I'll never understand why).
Every Wednesday we had a meeting with our school counselor, we complained but the counselor said that we had to respect her. We kept complaining, hoping that just maybe it would change something.
Then came the day that the camel's back broke. Ty was a decent kid trying to get his act together. Another girl and I did our best to help him out. The teacher seemed to do every possible thing to make him feel stupid. That day the teacher said something and I can't remember what it was but it pissed off the class and Ty started crying.
So three of us girls called the teacher out. We started to rip into her about how she treated us. Next thing I knew all of the class was screaming at her. Months of pent up frustration and anger shot to the surface. Eventually the teacher broke down crying herself.
That lunch time we started a petition to get her fired. It didn't work, the other teachers and Principal found out. The next day we got a stern talking-to by the counselor. We weren't punished but it was clear if we ever tried it again that we would in some way. And at first all of my class was going to be punished in someway, but I believe our homeroom teacher got us out of it.
That ended up being her last year as a teacher, she retired the next year. No one was sad to see her go. Always stand up, even if you know that you'll get in trouble. No one deserves a teacher that belittles them.
