Education is more than what can be learned in the classroom. Practical life skills are important to implement in a child’s education, which is the goal of implementing our Agricultural Learning Center at our partnering schools. . The teacher in this first photo, Kru Amnoy, initiated the idea of growing food at the school for the students to receive nutritional meals every day. So with that grassroots initiative, our local staff was trained in permaculture farming and we began growing organic produce! . GIVE staff member, P’Au, is the happy fella with all the kiddos in these photos! He leads the after school Permaculture Club for students to learn agricultural methods, teaching them to take care of the farm and grow an appreciation for their environment. . Development comes from leaders in the community. Leaders emerge from a foundation of education. . Our partnering communities of Gorkha and Langtang have had limited education resources due to minimal government support to rural villages. Since the 2015 earthquake, these communities have been seeking opportunities for regrowth. The most effective source of growth is rooted in education & economic opportunity. . These communities have expressed interest in further teacher trainings & English classes for families developing a home-stay business to host tourists as an opportunity for income. . Our #Students4Students campaign will make it possible to offer teacher trainings, pay for a local English teacher to offer classes for families weekly, and essential school supplies for students in Gorkha & Langtang. . Let us introduce the exciting impact offered by the Sop Chem Education fund 👇 . The Sop Chem Ed Fund assists students in continuing their education onto secondary school by providing supplies that are a direct barrier for eligible students. . Sop Chem is too small of a community for the government to provide a secondary school. The major barriers for students to attend secondary school is simply the finances to purchase the required uniforms, shoes, books, backpack, tuition, and dormitory fees. . We believe these students deserve to continue their education, so we created a tiered reward system based on attendance. Students participating in the Ed Fund are required to attend a certain number of English classes as well as assisting on the agriculture/permaculture plot. Based on their attendance, they'll receive different levels of scholarships. Any student eligible for secondary school can participate (although some of the youngins like to participate just for fun!) . Additionally, the community of Sop Chem is primarily made up of two ethnic groups: Lao and Khmu. The Khmu are generally less supported economically and don't have as many assets as the Lao families. Because of this, the fund also provides two full scholarships that covers all supplies and 1 years worth of tuition and dormitory fees. . The two biggest sources of successful development are education & community leadership. Our #Students4Students campaign is LIVE folks! 🙌 Our GIVE fam around the world is rallying to support year-round education opportunities in our partnering communities! Each day we will feature our education programs. Today? Our longest standing program since 2011, Nicaragua 🇳🇮 . In the Jiquilillo community, a variety of education has been offered within our Bottle School (named after the plastic bricks made to build the school walls!) When our volunteers aren’t there, classes are being held by local teachers👩🏽‍🏫 This is made possible by the funds donated each year to provide support to the teacher salaries, teaching computer & English classes! . Over on the Caribbean side of our program, Miss Wendy is the teacher who offers free preschool education on Little Corn Island. This essential support to young students would not be available without the generosity of the Students4Students campaign 🙏 .
