Inside National Geographic

On November 15, we invited our members from the Washington, D.C. region to our offices to see where and how the magic happens. They toured the photo studio where they were given an introduction to lighting with staff photographers Becky Hale and Mark Thiessen. With two different lighting set-ups, they learned how to shoot portraits with different types of light modeling, as well as photograph popping water balloons to demonstrate high-speed flash photography. 

During their time at our newly designed offices, they were also able to show their photography to National Geographic photo editors. This included editors not only from Your Shot, but also from Traveler magazine, National Geographic magazine, and our News division. Perhaps best of all, members were able to meet each other and talk about their work and love of photography; many of whom knew each other on the site, but had never met in person. 

We want to thank everyone for coming out and especially the National Geographic staff for their time and feedback. While we've heard from many of you that this was a once in a lifetime experience, it won't be the last! Follow the blog to keep updated on the next #yourshotmeetup.
