Today I’m sharing a painting that didn’t quite work out. I remember as a younger painter going through the struggles of different painting situations and feeling defeated many, many days. in my search for answers, I loved hearing from successful painters about how they struggled and how a lot of their paintings didn’t work out so great either. So in that spirit I’m sharing my demo from today. I got it to a point of finish but then I decided to correct the petal shape and I couldn’t quite get it to the way it was before. In my experience and in my style of painting (alla prima), this cannot be saved. It’s done. It’s over. So I wiped it out. In the past there would’ve been a lot of browbeating and a lot of self-loathing and negative self talk, but somewhere along the line I learned that wiping out a painting is actually one of the best things you can do for yourself and for your painting. So here’s a wiper. To all the painters out there who had a less than perfect day, cheers to you. Let’s start over again tomorrow. #OilPainting #SarahGriffinThibodaux #StudioThibodeaux #ContemporaryRealism #NewOrleansArtist #LouisianaArtist #Magnolia #FlowerPainting #OnlineArtClasses #Allaprima (at New Orleans, Louisiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO58Zn1FM7E/?igshid=12feoaly7jrf8
