Do you have any tips for a level bio/chem on AQA? You got such high grades and I aspire to achieve the same! X
yikes this is such an old question IM SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG but here we go:
For a levels, I found the most important thing to be just doing past papers over and over until you get the right style + know what the examiners are looking for!
For bio, diagrams are a god send! Drawing out metabolic pathways always makes them stick in my mind better, then repeat and keep drawing them until you’ve got them nailed and can recite them from memory, then can quickly draw a sketch in the margin of the exam paper to help you know whats going on.
Bio is all about memorising things, vocab, labelling parts of the cell and knowing what each bit does, pathways and processes, so I would make lots and lots of flashcards with the process on one side (eg Metaphase) then all the info on the back, then read the title and try to remember as many points as I can. If I could do all the points, put it in one pile, then all the ones I didnt know in another and keep going over them until you know it all (or as much as possible!)
Definitely don’t slack on the maths practice either, I remember we had some pretty tricky maths bits in our AQA paper. Practice reading off graphs, unit conversions, stuff like that.
Don’t be scared of the essays, they’re an ace way to show off all the knowledge. Don’t spend too much time worrying about which to pick, just go for the broadest topic and write your little heart out on as much as you know about it in as much detail as possible.
Chem, same again, write out each mechanism until you know it off the top of your head. Chem is also quite mathsy so make sure you nail the units and stuff, comes in really handy when it comes down to the MCQ as you want to be as precise and fast as possible as theres quite a few to do in a short space of time. I hated learning the practical bits (still do at uni LOL) but u just gotta learn em unfortunately.
