Dark academia study tips
Everybody has his own way. So do people study in different ways. Here are some study tips with a slight dark academia touch:
- Figure out a motivation: especially when you don’t like the subject. Figure out how you can make the studying ‘light’. You can make an entire notebook and decorate it, dedicated to that subject. Or you can find a different way to study it: watching videos, teach your pet or an imaginary class (hey this worked for me:)), etc...
- Understand! before you wanna memorize an entire chapter or syllabus, make sure that you understand it. This is a crucial step. So read through the material and at the end you’ll see that some chapters are connected to each other.
- Mind palace: you associate something in your house (furniture, walls...) or another you place you know and you link it with a word or a sentence from your textbook/study material. Basically, you connect something you don’t know to something you know. Make sure you have a list of words or sentences.
- Association: make (funny) stories about the study material or link vocab with stupid words/name: ‘Timere’ means in Latin ‘to fear’, you recognize a name: Tim/Timmy or even Timothee. So you can imagine Timothée Chalamet being afraid of some monster (sounds crazy and weird, but if it helps you memorize..)
If you for example have to memorize a book, you can search for pics that refers to the story and stick them in a notebook or on the wall (something like in Kill your darlings). Write a quote or a name under each of them. So if you have a test about it, you will remember those pics.
- Repeat: This is very important. Even if it’s 15 minutes. Grab a coffee or tea, sit in a cozy/comfortable spot and go over your summaries. You can even take a few papers and go for a walk around your house (but stay mostly inside folks).
Do it your own way; don’t force yourself too much and take care of yourself in difficult times like these.
