Does anyone know of blogs that do positivity stim boards?
(Images show photos of small squishmallows with a bed and a bookcase made for them out of balsa wood, as well as a hoop art piece with the words “club mallow”)
if anyone’s interested / has constructive feedback or tips for me, i’ve started getting into making lil furniture for my squishmallows, just as a way to be creative without any pressure or need to be “productive”……
Here’s what i’ve made so far! Today’s project is to start a kitchen hutch for the bowls and plates they have!
Does anyone else make anything out of balsa wood? Any tips or tricks?
Also, i’m on Instagram at squishfamallow where i share pics of my mallows having fun at home and out in nature! As i work on their clubhouse, more pics will go there. Would people also be interested in me posting more pics here?
Screenshots of a tweet thread by @Clara_MdB about being ND and meeting and encouraging an autistic child; you can read or listen to the full text depicted in the screenshots here at threadreader.
A lot of replies on this thread were from neurotypicals wishing that OP had educated the mom somehow, telling her that the child spoke to OP and explaining how to get him to talk. To nip those comments in the bud here: it would have been a betrayal of trust for OP to tell on this child like that. He clearly doesn’t want his mom to know yet, and her knowing would add an immense pressure to his life.
Neurotypicals just can’t stand the fact that a neurodivergent person might choose to side with and prioritize their fellow ND person over them, i suppose. The ones who commented on this thread also seem to have missed OP’s point that the child not talking yet is not a big tragedy or conflict!
OP might be the one person telling this child he’s not broken for being the way he is, the only person not treating his nonverbal-ness as a puzzle to be solved, and that’s infinitely valuable.
"stim blogs should be openly accepting" says the anti-transmed. transmeds are NOT terfs.
(cw “discourse” rather than stim content; i don’t plan on having more posts on this issue of whom i don’t want interacting with my blog.)
Hi there, anon. i hope you’re doing well.
if i have called my blog “openly accepting” in the past, i’ll have to amend my language, because it’s not possible for me to run a blog that is completely “open" to anyone and everyone to interact with, while also staying true to my beliefs around justice and solidarity.
i do not accept any person whose ideology does harm to a marginalized group. i do not want transmedicalists interacting with this blog because -- even while as trans people they are members of an oppressed community themselves -- they cause harm to fellow members of their own community. And it would be unjust for me tolerate that:
‘The paradox of tolerance states that if a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually seized or destroyed by the intolerant. Karl Popper described it as the seemingly paradoxical idea that, "In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance."’
There must needs be a limit to “welcoming everyone” and “accepting everyone.” if i were to welcome certain groups onto my blog, my blog would no longer be an actually welcoming space for other, vulnerable groups.
Thus i do not welcome people whose ideologies cause real, active harm to marginalized groups -- even in the rare case that that means that the group i must needs exclude is itself marginalized, as with transmeds. It makes my heart ache that there are fellow members of my community who think that i or certain others don’t belong in the community! i desperately wish that weren’t the case! But as long as it is the case, as long as i am forced to “pick a side” in a community that can only thrive when united in solidarity, i will pick the side of those who fit even less into society’s normative narratives, such as non-dysphoric trans folks.
Hello! I've also gotten really into squishmallows lately too, and I thought you would like to know they have a non binary squishmallow!! Their name is Bobby and they're a tie dye bunny. The one I bought has a little Easter egg on their tummy! I found mine at fred meyer in my hometown but also online is an option. Have a good day!
omg!!!!! that’s really cool, thank you for letting me know :O
squishmallows are such a wonderful softness and they’re so cute.....and the fact that they sell them at the grocery store is Bad News for me because it means i have to resist buying more every time i shop there. i got my latest mallow, Danny, a few weeks ago when my resistance wore down and i just Had To get him -- but i don’t regret it in the slightest, because he’s a very sweet addition to our family. now i’ll have to keep an eye out for Bobby because they sound super cute too (((\[^o^]/)))
if there isn’t already one i don’t know about, there should be a tag for when you wanna ask fellow autistic folks a question about autism — such as, “does anyone else do ___?” or “i’m having extra trouble with meltdowns lately, anyone have advice?”
i know we’ve got the #actuallyautistic tag for anything related to being autistic, but this would be a more specific tag just for questions for other autistic folks.
my suggestion for the tag: #autisticasking
Any thoughts?
I'm not sure if you ever do blog promos or whatever but - I have a fairly new stim blog (sending from anon bc it's my side blog) and I've just started posting some original content - it's sensoryshark if you or any followers want to take a gander :3
Neato! I’m always looking for more non-exclusionist/transphobic stim blogs to follow, so thanks for letting me know! Followers, check out @sensoryshark :D
can I ask what state you are in? I just love wading in water so much
i’m in Louisville, Kentucky! (though i’m moving soon)
wading in the water is The Best. and there were lots of people with dogs at the river today -- including one group teaching their two tiny lil dogs how to enjoy the water. it was sooooo cute watching these pups go from being scared to cross a lil pebble-filled stream to venturing into a little waterfall!
