Woah 2 fics in a row?! Nahh I had this one written waaay back and was supposed to release it on feb 14. But I'm employed, so this was pushed back.
Anyways here's my rare pair proposal:
Stungun (Patty x Harvar)
Late afternoon light poured through the tall windows of the Death Weapon Meister Academy.
Harvar stood by the glass window, watching students gather in the courtyard below. Laughter carried faintly upward then footsteps softly approaches.
Patty stopped beside him.
For a moment, she didn’t say anything. She just looked out with him.
“…Liz isn’t with you?” he asked. It was obvious that he didn't have the energy to match this freak.
“She went with someone else,” Patty replied easily. “Tsubaki invited her to get sweets.”
He glanced at her, wondering why does she seem mellow, "Good for her."
“Yeah! She finally has friends,” Patty continued, still watching the courtyard. “Before this… it was kinda just us. And everyone else was just a guy we probably robbed at some point. Lots'a enemies out'der.” Her tone was light and honest.
“Now she laughs with other people. She doesn’t have to look over her shoulder all the time.” She smiled faintly.
“I’m really thankful for Kid.” The name lingered between them then her smile thinned,“…But we’re going to fight a Kishin soon.”
Harvar didn’t react outwardly.
Patty’s fingers rested against the windowsill.
“Any day, something could happen.” Her voice stayed steady — too steady. “We could lose someone.”
“I could lose her," she whispered.
Silence pressed in.
“So sometimes,” she went on, quieter now, “I wonder if we were normal… if we didn’t have to do this… would that be better?”
She tilted her head slightly, as if genuinely considering it.
“No witches. No Kishin. Just… boring...but...happy? Would we be happy then, or will we still face the same kind of problems but...like...different...ya know?” she asks him with a vague hand gesture.
Harvar just gave her a blank stare. Patty lets out a thoughtful hum and stares up at sky, cheeks puffing slightly as she wonder.
“…But then sis wouldn’t have met Tsubaki... or Soul...or Maka...or Kid...” Her reflection in the glass looked uncertain.
“And I definitely wouldn't have known you.” She says in a lighthearted teasing manner.
“So I don’t know,” it was too much thinking for her and has decided to brush the thought away.
Harvar studied her from the side, “…Do you wish you were normal?”
Patty thought about it longer than he expected. “…I wish I didn’t have to be scared,” she answered.
That was different.
Patty straightened, brightness slowly returning to her posture.
“But if being ‘not normal’ means sis gets to smile like that…” She nodded toward the courtyard. “Then I guess I can handle it,” she looked at him now with a determined smile.
Harvar didn’t smile but something in his gaze shifted.
He was right.
She wasn’t naive.
She wasn’t blindly optimistic.
She had weighed it.
Chosen it.
“…You’re not as shallow as you act,” he said.
Patty blinked, "Shallow? Like a kiddie pool? Hmmm...I can probably swim the ocean! One time, Kid even made me row a boat on that deep sea. Sis was really scared, but I can do it! Though I've always wondered why he made us row a boat. Doesn't he have the money to buy a yacht?" She rebuts with her usual jolly tone, seamleslly changing the topic.
But she didn’t deny it.
She continues to yap about her days. Telling Harvar stories of her fun adventure with everyone.
And he listened.
He understood that her whimsy wasn’t ignorance, it was a decision. A front she put up because she cared for her sister.
That was a start of his quiet fondness.
All afternoon he focused on her, and somehow, despite his stoic nature, he gave Patty a place in his chest.
