Prompt 8 - Drench

Two weeks went by. Remus’s gym card arrived in the post. He left it on the coffee table, unopened, but the gym’s logo on the envelope mocked him. He couldn’t even turn it over because the damn thing was on the back as well. 

He had intended to try again, possibly find out when Sirius wasn’t going to be there, but anxiety got the best of him. He’d left it too long, and now it would be a big thing if he went back. It was a shame because he’d really liked it there and Sirius too. 

His phone rang, and after checking who it was, he answered it. 

“Hey, Lils,” he said, glad to hear from his friend. He’d been worried it had been work, or his doctor, or his dad, or even the gym. Lily was alright, though. He could talk to her. 

“What’s up? Long time no see. I’m going to the gym later and wondered if you wanted to come with me?”

Remus swallowed as he considered her offer. Going with Lily would lessen the impact of his return, but what if Sirius was there? He’d been so stupid running out like that. It was bound to come up. No. He’d decline her offer. 

“Sorry, Lils, I’m, er, busy,” he finished lamely. The line crackled as Lily blew out through her nose. Remus often imagined her as a dragon and half expected her to breathe fire when she was annoyed. 

“What happened?”

Damn it, she knew him far too well. He’d drench himself in molten lava to get out of this conversation, but Lily meant too much to him, so he grinned and bared it and told her what happened. 

“Idiots, the lot of you,” she said before hanging up. Remus put his phone away, scared that Lily might just come here to tell him off or worse, go down to the gym and tell Sirius off. He grabbed his coat and hurried out of his flat, just in case.

Btw this is not me bashing on any ships- tbh they’re both good in my opinion - I just thought it was funny how I thought I immediately clocked Darling and Trench (which- if we’re going by Ao3 statistics I did), got blindsided by Darling and Zane, and then immediately understood why they were on the top of the tag after watching them interact for literally 1 minute 💀💀💀
