My thought process as I played through Control for the first time after getting into Alan Wake II
Btw this is not me bashing on any ships- tbh they’re both good in my opinion - I just thought it was funny how I thought I immediately clocked Darling and Trench (which- if we’re going by Ao3 statistics I did), got blindsided by Darling and Zane, and then immediately understood why they were on the top of the tag after watching them interact for literally 1 minute 💀💀💀
Prompt 23 - Drench

Sirius was nervous. This was their first proper date, and he’d taken Remus to a very fancy restaurant. He was beginning to regret his choice of establishment and wished he’d taken him to get fish and chips and gone for a walk on the beach. Remus looked quite relaxed, gazing around the intimately lit dining area.
“Sir, may I take your wine order?” The sommelier appeared beside him with a wine menu. Sirius took it with shaking hands. He knew this. He could do this. He chose a nice red, and the smile he got from the sommelier let him know he’d chosen well.
The first course came. A crisp salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. Sirius proceeded to drench the beautifully displayed leaves with the dressing and handed it over to Remus, who lightly coated his own with it.
“Sirius, you look nervous, are you alright?” Remus asked as he dug into the salad. Sirius nodded a bit too forcefully and nearly sent his glass of wine flying as he gestured with his hands.
“Yep, all good here. No need to worry,” Sirius plastered a huge smile on his face.
“Sirius, do you want to get out of here?” Remus asked, his eyes full of kindness.
“Gods, yes. I forgot how much I hate places like this.” He’d grown up in restaurants like this, his parents insisting he understood fine dining.
“Fish and chips on the pier?” Remus suggested. Sirius quickly waved the waiter over.
“Sorry, we have an unexpected emergency and won’t be able to continue our dinner,” The waiter was very understanding and went into the kitchen to cancel their order before coming back with the bill. Sirius paid and gave the waiter a big tip before he grabbed Remus’s hand and rushed out of the restaurant. He pulled his tie loose and took his jacket off.
They spent the rest of the evening feeding each other chips and bites of battered fish before braving the icy waters and walking up to their ankles down the beach.
“Perfect first date,” Remus whispered in his ear before pulling Sirius in close and kissing him. Sirius sighed happily. He should have gone with his heart and done this from the start.
