Digimon Universe Appli Monsters Episode 5 Review
It time to introduce a new character into the show know as Eri and her annoying catchphrase. In the sub I watched it was Explosive punch in Crunchroll it’s Big Bang Punch. I like Explosive punch over Big Bang Punch because it’s simple and works with Dokamon’s naming. Doka meaning sound effect for impacts and explosions.
With Eri act of being arrogant is annoying and not a fun characterization of her. Her saying that she’ll give a punch to someone to make sound tough it make me feel like she not a nice person to be around when she is nice. She has a habit of standing on chairs with her shoes off. Her having her shoes off when she stands on chairs is Japaneses thing of people taking off their shoes when they come home. But this make her look more childish and dumb when she does it. Plus when we met her partner Appmon Dokamon, he is just as annoying as her.
The Appmon of the week is Dressmon and I hate her. People are wearing the wrong clothes after wearing them. This is where I draw the line of the people stupid actions in this series. They should ask why they have to wear these clothes before putting them on. This is not funny at all! This is just stupid so there can be conflit in the episode! People can get fired for this even if there using the App.
Haru and Eri goes to face off Dressmon and after a crossdressing joke they began to fight Dressmon. Gatchmon starts to stuggle with Dressmon and ask for Eri help, but she didn’t. Dokamon tell Eri of him being a gaming Appmon that make people smile and tries to make Eri relate to him which works. Eri Appli Drive power is to use a game pad to use Dokamon’s attack which I find less useful then Haru’s. Is this game pad giving Dokamon extra power? What does it even do if Dokamon could just perform the move on his own? At least Haru’s Appli Drive ability has more connection then Eri and Dokamon. Even with that, it still doesn’t get the win and Haru had to App link Dokamon and Gatchmon together to finish Dressmon off. Wow this show how worthless that power was.
Eri tell her backstory to Haru. Her mom was overworked and she was alone most of the time. The only thing that make her happy is the idols she watched on videos and then she take the appli drive out of a crane game machine. After that it asked her a question of “Do you want to make a person smile?” then she pick yes and Dokamon just show up. Then she locked him up.
My final thoughts about this episode is that this episode sucked. I’m not a fan of Eri’s Idol persona and her backstory is not fully told to us. I think that I didn’t care about Eri trying to make people happy when she act so annoying about it. Her standing on chairs makes her look childish her saying to people that she gonna to punch them make her sound rude when she is not and her saying that she is the center of the universe make her sound self center when she not. To a point where I don’t care about her Idol persona then I don’’t care about Eri at all. This does make me wonder if she goes to school because
As for Haru, there not much they do with him. I feel like they don’t give him enough time to interact with Eri that much. I feel he was even more of a background character then he was in the previous episode beside facing off the Appmon of the week. I also don’t like that Haru has to steal Eri’s spotlight by link Gatchmon and Dokimon. At this point I don’t care about Haru that much in this episode.
Finally the straw that broke the camels back is the monster of the week Dressmon. I really think that this App or Dressmon should exist at all. I felt that the only reason why they have to have this moment to have stupid comedic moment that are faceplamable. Why did they ask why they are dressing in these clothes after wearing them I would think it would been funnier if they showed the thing that they were given and asking why they were given these clothes. Even if it’s a system fault I think there should have been more common sense in this episode. So with I’ll give this episode a D+
