I finally watched the first one last month (thanks for the free rental, Redbox!) and was just completely unimpressed.

Right?? Given the explosion of fic I thought there would at least be something there, but no, it’s yet again the confluence of migratory slash fandom and white dick. Like, I’m sure there’s some decent fic out there, but how much mediocre crap am I going to have to wade through to find it?

Remus/Sirius (i am predictable)

• when or if I started shipping it. - fannishly, in 2003, a few months before OotP came out. I’d started reading HP fic and not liking it at all when they weren’t together; privately, without really realizing it, from the moment I read “Together?” “Yes, I think so.” in PoA.

• my thoughts: Ugh, I just want them to be happy together and retire to a cottage in the country. I reject canon and substitute my own!

• What makes me happy about them: I am a totally friends-to-lovers shipper, and they were made for that. You can do it in the MWPP era or the post-Hogwarts/first war era or post-Azkaban, or LIE LOW AT LUPIN’S and it can be a first time or a reunion or a FWB that turns into something more or just... there’s just a lot of emotion there and a lot of history and I love it in all its various permutations.

• What makes me sad about them: What doesn’t make me sad about them? The mistrust that led to Sirius believing Remus could be a spy and thus cut out of the change of plans and Remus accepting that Sirius must be guilty? The twelve years Sirius spent in Azkaban for a crime he didn’t commit while Remus had to live hand to mouth as a pariah in his own society, with no friends or loved ones to help him out? Sirius being locked up again in Grimmauld Place and deteriorating mentally and emotionally after having managed to recover a little in his years on the run? Falling through a fucking veil and dying when all he wanted to do was protect Harry? Not even getting a memorial afterwards and people shit-talking him? Remus dying as an afterthought?

• things done in art/fic that annoys me: Eh, I don’t think people still do the things that used to irritate me and I don’t read it enough anymore to have a list of complaints now. I will say that I dislike Thewlis-as-Lupin and all the facial scarring in fanart. (Otoh, I enjoy movie!Sirius’s prison tattoos and velvet wardrobe.)

• things I look for in art/fic: Banter! Pranks! Sirius being the most beautiful boy at Hogwarts! Mature explorations of their reunion after Azkaban and how they could move forward together as they people they are now.

• Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Uh. No one for Sirius. I guess I enjoyed some Bill/Remus back in the day. I really didn’t like how canon handled Remus/Tonks, or I might have said that.

• My happily ever after for them: having a cottage in the country where they could grow old together with occasional visits from Harry and the next generation(s).

• what is their favorite non-sexual activity? coming up with elaborate pranks. arguing over things that happened 20 years ago. riding Sirius’s flying motorbike and scaring the Muggles. Running together under the full moon and then waking up together in the morning.

genitive: what's your favorite possession? Probably... my computer? It’s got not just my career in it but also all my friends. It’s what I pick up when I’m sad and happy. 

ablative: what would you carry out of a burning building? Assuming my family and cats were out, then... my computer. :P (It wasn’t cheap, okay??)
