Mun views... 16. On roleplaying in general.
I started role playing when I was about thirteen years old, so Iāve been at this hobby/recreation for about.... eleven years... holy shit.Ā It was only within the last three years that I took role playing to tumblr, instead of IMs with JPP. What Iām trying to say here is that I enjoy role playing, I think itās a great way to express creativity and enhance your writing skills (if you actively do this; bc this can be just leisure and your skills stay stagnant). I love the way in which you can create characters and interact with other peopleās characters or renditions. Itās fascinating. We all rely on each otherās creativity and imaginations to find fun, and thatās great! Just like reading. I think itās a great way to pass the time, but it can get easily all too consuming.Ā
Role playing really helped me through the years on keeping an interest in writing and exercising my skills. My dialogue has greatly improved over the many years thanks to the interactions between JPP and I through our private role plays. It was also a good way of escapism when I wasnāt in the mood to read (gasp! I know!).Ā
But thereās also things about role playing that can get me all befuddled, especially role playing on this site. Iām not going to sit here and pretend everythingās okay and a field of rainbows and saccharine roses when it comes to tumblr rp, because, frankly, itās not. While Iāve enjoyed my time here for the most part (and hope to continue, though maybe not as frequently), the community has fallen into ways that have made rping, for me, less fun--as in heavy formats and purple prose. Not to mention the bullying I witnessed over the few years being on here. Itās not perfect, rping on this site, but it can be fun and at times, it can also be rewarding. Thatās what happens when you mingle with people. Everyoneās different--and while thatās good, it can also be bad in some ways, for you and the person. So, balance and well-being are definitely needed when role playing more publicly, like tumblr. Thereās a lot more I could say on the subject, but this post is getting lengthy enough as is.Ā
Basically, I will forever advocate role playing as both a means of fun leisure and as a way to strengthen and develop your writing. It is an interesting medium of fun, for free, at the touch of your fingertips. Creativity and imagination are wonderful gifts given to us as people. Its boundless and beautiful. Writing is truly a work of art.Ā
