ISSUE TEN: “GROWTH”

An ode to the Premiere Issue (“IN BLOOM”), the tenth issue’s theme is “GROWTH”. This theme does not only carry an organic meaning. The word can span definitions, and can signify any memories, emotions, thoughts or opinions. Contributors are encouraged to interpret the theme in any way desired. The theme is merely a reference point. “GROWTH” is fluid, it disguises itself during times that may be painful or challenging. As cliché it is, we may only be aware of times of growth when we look back on periods of life with retrospect. A “learning curve”, “progress”, “ageing”, or “change”: whatever it means to you, “GROWTH” is constant in life.

CONTRIBUTORS WANTED.

The process for putting together ISSUE SIX of STYLO mag has begun, and we need you. Even if you don't have anything particular in mind, or don't even consider yourself to be creative, we want to hear and see and visualise your interpretation of this issue's theme: DREAM. 

Do you remember your dreams? What are they, why do we have them and what do they mean? Ask yourself the big questions... We want to hear what you have to say even if you don't know how to answer them. This could be in any form of expression through art, writing, photography, design, or anything you think could relate to the theme - as long as it's your own work, we want you to interpret, express, elaborate, explore. Contributors are always welcome at any point and entries won't be due for another month. Let us know here if you're intrigued.

ISSUE SIX: DREAM

Escape reality and submerge yourself into your subconscious. The human mind stores millions of secrets, memories and desires, the majority of which are hidden away from our conscious view and emerge only in our sleep. The subconscious world is a complex one, filled with unanswered questions and mysteries. Salvador Dalì, Frida Kahlo, Rene Magritte: they tried to explain it but probably left us feeling even more confused, and dreams lie at the essence of Indigenous Australian spirituality, the Dreamtime. "The Science of Sleep" is a movie that explores the "science des rêves" - literally "the science of dreams" and how they're constructed through a surrealist, cellophane lens of flying through deep seas and clouds on the back of a cardboard horse. Yeah, it's fucking weird, but aren't all dreams?

ISSUE #5: PASSION.

Passion can be expressed through a multitude of ways. Sex, rage, love, hunger, pain, desire: we are emotional beings, and our passion stirs deeply within our subconsciousness until we release it with bursts of intensity. We see passion everyday on a grand-scale, on the news, through protests, wars, and activism amongst others. But what about the passion that dwells within each of us each day? Maybe our passion is found in what we aspire to, what we study, what we are interested in, what we lust or crave - what we live for. Passion is what makes us human. Real, raw, warm-blooded humans.
