More PUUUNS!
I feel conflicted about Ixalan. On one hand, I've waited for dinosaurs for a long time. On the other hand, I really don't like pirates. Is it really dinosaur world + pirate world? Or are those just two elements?
Those are two elements. It's a cohesive (and beautiful) world.
Looks like Princess Undina has a little bit of a secret: she was kidnapped by pirates, but she enjoys the experience ‘cause it’s way better than her boring school life. The girl’s using every chance she can get to see and explore the surface world.
Even if she’s making everyone at home worry about her, she still keeps the facade of a cheerful princess while using the “kidnapping“ to her benefit. She’s a pretty morally-grey character!
This issue ends with the Chaotix contemplating their life choices and what they’re gonna do next after they improvised joining the pirates group. Add to that their mission to “rescue” Princess Undina from them and question Razor’s motives, and that’s a pretty decent cliffhanger to end on, even though I definitely remember the next few issues not being nearly as engaging as this one.
We’ll make it through this pirate adventure yet, guys!
Something is very off with Dive. He is a lamming, and there was a myth that real life lemmings leapt off of cliffs to their deaths during migration...
I’m glad in this iteration, he’s just kinda obsessed with staring out at sea instead. xD
Yep, to stay alive in this tricky situation, Vector follows Razor’s example and makes a pirate outta themselves. That’s one way to adapt to the situation, I guess! I love Espio and Echo’s shocked expressions before they start to realise the plan.
Echo eventually joins in too, though she’s still shaken because she legit thought Razor and the Chaotix were betraying her and leaving her for dead. Good thing Undina saved her last-minute! The princess seems pretty friendly with the pirates if she’s just gonna casually ask her bodyguard to join with her in a life of pirating.
Time for more Chaotix and pirate antix! Don’t touch the sharks, Charmy.
With the colouring of these issues and having Tracy Yardley as artist, this really harkens back to the pre-reboot era, which shows me just how far this series had come since then.
I stopped reading for a few weeks. What happened to the Latest Developments column? Has Melissa's column replaced it or is it different?
Sam has retired from writing "Latest Developments" (but not from R&D). Melissa took over and the column was renamed as it's more focused on Play Design.
