Is there a new @cathaypacific Diamond benefit that I wasn’t aware of? I mean, three weeks ago this Cathay Pacific East-Indonesia Area Manager Jamie Coates popped up on my HKG/SUB flight. And today, I found him on my SUB/HKG flight! And then I found out he’s staying at the same @skycitymarriotthongkong for the evening. Has he been assigned to be my new bodyguard? The historic landmark Dutch-Indonesian Colonial Hotel in Surabaya, presently and simply known as the Majapahit Hotel. Built in 1910 as The Hotel Oranje by the architect Alfred John Bidwell, who was commissioned by the owner, Lucas Martin Sarkies. It changed the name to Hotel Yamato during the Japanese occupation (1942-1945); Hotel Merdeka (1945), and again changed to the LMS Hotel (the original owner’s initials) in 1946, before finally settled to the current name in 1969. (After the 1996-1998 renovation, it reopened as the Mandarin Oriental Majapahit Hotel; but the Mandarin Hotel group has ceased to manage the hotel.) These photos are of the second floor dining room, currently serving as a Chinese restaurant.
