Coffee shops today are no longer only about coffee
Coffee shops today are no longer only about coffee. For many young people, cafes have become spaces for working, meeting friends, finding inspiration, and even enjoying personal time away from busy daily routines.
This lifestyle shift can be seen in many cities, including Surabaya. Comfortable interiors, warm lighting, and relaxing music make coffee shops more attractive as everyday destinations. Many customers now choose cafes based on atmosphere and experience, not only because of the menu.
Daendels Haunted House ⁉️
The so-called "Haunted House" on Reiniersz Boulevard, one of the few houses built in the 18th-century style that were spared from demolition. Knight J. A. van Middelkoop, governor, later prefect and landdrost of Java's Oosthoek (1809-10), had the house built on a plot of land he had purchased from Daendels.
Once, a séance was held there by Mrs. Monch, a medium. However, during that séance, no manifestations occurred, so afterward, no one knew who the ghost actually was.
There were two different accounts of this. According to one, the ghost was the daughter of a former resident, who had murdered her illegitimate child, and according to the other, it was one of the owners, who had been a galley slave. This slave supposedly bore a brand on his back. (...) he didn't wish to be washed after his death, which must have happened. As a result, he supposedly couldn't find peace in the afterlife.
Daendels and haunted house in the same paragraph is not on my 2025 bingo list 💀 I mean technically Daendels wasn't heavily involved here, he once only owned the land then the knight dude bought the land n made it into a house. But damn, for it to turn haunted is insane 😭 I did some digging n find that now it's called "Gedung Setan Surabaya", saw some pics n lowkey it is scary but I would love to visit it one day haha. Lastly fyi, based on some news I've read the building still have some ppl living on it 😯 Anyway, that's all for now, thank you guys n have a great day, stay safe 🌙
