I feel bad when I read an amazing post, one I'd love to reblog, but I don't, just because, even though I like the content overall, I don’t quite agree with how a specific part is worded. Like, I think that part could be harmful to some people, and since I would’ve phrased it differently, I hesitate to reblog it and make those specific words feel like mine. But at the same time, the content is very interesting and I wanted to help op by sharing their stuff. Even if it’s clearly a joke or a critique, I still can’t bring myself to pass on information written in a certain way that wouldn't feel right to me.
I struggle a lot with wording, especially in text, because the lack of tone you get from spoken speech can really make a difference. Maybe I’m taking things too seriously, idk. I just think it's important to express opinions in a way that doesn’t come off as disrespectful or dismissive, even in the smallest details.
Maybe these issues are part of why I’ve never engaged much with people online or used social media heavily. It all becomes overwhelming really quickly for me, which is why I keep distancing myself from social platforms for months at a time before I feel comfortable interacting again.
It’s a bit sad, honestly, because there are genuinely positive, enlightening exchanges out there, and I do value interpersonal bonds and thoughtful discussion. But... it is what it is.
