eighteen years since she has seen her. eleven since she has heard her voice in her head. a voice promising to come back for her, not to leave her in that place. even then andi knew one -- uma as she’d learned she was now called -- would never be back. not that she blamed her. andi was happy uma hadn’t risked it all by coming back, in all likelihood the older girl would have just ended up locked away again. it worked out in the end, andi got herself free. for eight years now she’d been laying low, watching over her shoulder for someone to drag her back.
it took that long before andi decided it was safe to search out one of the few people who’d ever cared about her. over the years she’d looked in on uma, made sure she was safe, but with no safe way of contacting her, that was all she could do. watch.
which is how she found herself back in hawkins.
even with the lab closed, those associated with what had been done to them gone, she did not feel safe. an itch on the back of her neck feeling like eyes were on her. hands in the pockets of her ( admittedly flamboyant yellow ) coat, andi pushed her way into the diner. a small bell above her signalling her arrival.
she’d seen uma here just a few minutes ago. a quick scan of the room placed her in a booth by the back corner. sliding in to the seat across from her without waiting for permission to do so, andi grabbed one of the laminated menus. gaze locked on reading the specials, she steadfastly avoided looking at the other woman. honestly she hadn’t gotten this far in her plans. did not know what to say to the girl she’d considered a sister but hadn’t seen in so long.
