As usual my interests are all over the place, so I drop one project for now to work on another. This one is also ambitious.
The sprites on the left are what I'm working with, the sprites on the right are what I've done so far. I'm not very experienced with pixel art, so it's a bit rough. But that's okay :3
The rumors are true... I am Emmet.
The test is successful! I'll be implementing the rest of the sprites I made/edited later. I'll share the mod after it's done- and don't worry, I'll make one for Ingo too.

Apparently this animation is a 3D model, which was significantly more difficult to mess with. I learned how to modify textures using a tool called NitroPaint and... a Mario Kart DS customizer.
Little update, I had finished making both Black 2 and White 2 ROM hacks for Emmet (still working on Ingo sprites rn), worked beautifully on an emulator. But on original hardware it tripped the anti piracy measures (no exp, crashes on Pokémon summary screen, etc.), so I had to figure out how to fix it.
A regular AP patch doesn't work with patching software since it isn't technically recognized as White 2. So after two days of researching and trying different things, I was close to giving up. But I decided to just say "screw it" and input the hex code lines myself.
Now it works great! So the ROM hack patches I'll post will work on a homebrewed system as well.
Oh yes, and I threw together a custom c-gear skin of the battle subway lines. I'll include it as well.
It only occurred to me today that I've been replacing Rosa's files for the Emmet mod, not Nate's.
While I do enjoy transfemmet art, I think I'll need to make some adjustments for general preference lol. If I made mods for both male AND female characters then that's 16 different versions across Emmet and Ingo in all four games. Let's just stick with 8.
Currently I've replaced all overworld sprites (to my knowledge) and added Emmet to the start screen when you select your file. Now I'm drawing back sprites for battles. Fair warning, I'm not messing with the arm animation 🙄 they're getting three frames each, I don't care.
Also no Pokéstar Studios because I don't want to draw them. Maybe. Probably. We'll see.
As I'm putting the final touches together, I wanted to throw out a poll. My submas ROM hack is mostly aesthetic, but I added one encounter on Route 19 (first route) so the player can have a Joltik early. But now I'm wondering,
Should I change any other encounters so players can have a submas team early?
Oh definitely yes, what is a subway boss ROM hack without their pokémon?
Nah, their pokémon are all from Unova so we can get them over time.
Not just normal encounters, modify the STARTERS to be their aces (baby).

Well unless I'm missing something tiny and obscure, I believe the Emmet mod is done. Now to make Ingo versions of the files, and to make patches for each version. I DID decide against making BW1 versions simply because BW2 are extended versions of the originals with a different story.
When I post the ROM patches, if on the very off chance that someone simply MUST have a version for the first games or for the female character then I'll do that by request only.
Why did I do this? Why did I replace every iteration of Nate with Emmet? I do not know.
