Money woes

2018 is the year of money. I know, I know, we are a month into the year already, I’m behind on this. Not really.... I started my financial reconstruction a few days after the New Year started. 

A little background: 

I have a good job, I’m a professional. My husband had a good job also. We are the standard “two income” family. We have two children both school age.  I glimpse of our financial situation:

We have the normal bills, Mortgage, car payment, vehicle insurance, cell phones, internet, cable, house phone, pest control, child car, credit card debt, etc 

As I entered this New Year, I had to make the realization we spend to much money on “stuff”.... My first step was to reduce small expenses and bills that we didn’t really need.

I took a serious look at my the smaller bills we pay each month.You know the small ones you think, oh, it only $10 a month?  For my house it was small things like Ipsy, Kindle Unlimited, Cricut subscription. I had accumulated subscriptions to these three companies, but didn’t either use them or utilize them as much as I could. It was an easy decision to cut ties with each. 

Ipsy, Cost $10 per month

I love this company and they send great samples of beauty products monthly. The fun quality zipper bags are awesome for organizing also.  I really liked the products, but I really didn’t utilize them as much as I expected. The decision to stop this subscription wasn’t too hard. It process is a little bit like chasing your tail, but no too hard.FYI,  Ipsy will offer to suspend the subscription for a certain number of months also, if you prefer also. 

Kindle Unlimited, Cost $9.99 per month 

I honestly don’t remember signing up for this. I’m sure I signed up for one of kids to be able to access a book they needed or something similar. I don’t particularly like eBooks, so despite having a Kindle fire, I don’t use it for reading. I didn’t see any reason to continue with this subscription. Canceling this was pretty easy and I had no problems doing so via the Amazon website. 

Cricut cutting machine, Cost $10 per month

I purchased this machine a while back, I have produced several cute decals, cards, paper cut outs for family and friends, it a handy machine. At the time I purchased it, I also subscribed to the Cricut monthly access. I didn’t know at the time I could access a number of free fonts, images and other things on the Cricut site. I found as I got better with the machine I could upload my own fonts and find most cutting files I wanted (SVG) online for free or just $1-2 each. Canceling this didn’t have an effect on my ability to use the machine. I can still purchase via Cricut, fonts and images as I need per item or through other sources and upload them. Canceling my subscription was easy.  

In a matter of about 10 minutes, from my couch, I lowered our monthly bills by approx $30. This savings equals $360 a year.
