Once one realizes the inherant isolative nature of existance it becomes a lot easier to part with any compulsive needs to hold on to particular people. It's all anout enjoying people's company to distract from the slow march towards death or whatever anyway. We're all going to leave the ball separately who you dance with only matters so much.
