It’s such a huge deal, but you don’t really think about it too much. Just take a second right now to really think about how huge a problem it is, right beside sexism and classism.
A common example is how terrible people treat children. As a general rule, you can’t really trust anything a child says and their input is rarely ever taken into account or seriously, right? Why is that?
Children are so fucking intelligent. Have you ever just sat down with a child, listening to them speak, and you can just feel something in you go “goddamn this kid is fucking brilliant”. If you have, great - I have too, we can be buddies. And if you haven’t, I strongly urge you to. Because children are so much smarter than they’re given credit for. I know eight year olds smarter than a lot of the kids in my highschool, and I really do think that kids can open up paths for us we can’t open ourselves. There’s something about kids that still puts fantasies over reality, and maybe that’s really what we may be missing - a dose of youth.
Idk I felt in the calm-ranting mood, and this topic’s really been bugging me. There are different victims of ageism, but I find children to be the most unique, because they don’t actually know they’re being treated any different, thus beginning their journey into this subtle discrimination. Share your thoughts if you’d like. I’m always in the conversational mood. :P
