The guilt that he carried was a feeling that wouldn’t go away easily. He knew Gwen hated the way he felt about himself in moments like this, but he couldn’t help it. He was supposed to be there to look after her- Just as she looked after him, but since he’d turned things just always seemed to get in the way of their being together.
He waited a moment as she spoke before he made his eyes meet hers. She brushed the attack off, as they did, because that was their life. It wasn’t safe, and they often found themselves getting hurt. He inhaled deeply as she brought up their upbringing- his eyes looked down as he shook his head slightly. He had more he wanted to say- more fight for why he should have just been there. He wanted to leave the pack, he wanted to forget about all of this and just go, like he always had. He exhaled before finally meeting her gaze again. “Okay-” He breathed out in agreement, though he still felt it in his bones that he’d never not blame himself for things going wrong.
“We should take a break.” He stated before he could stop the words from coming out of his mouth. “From hunting.” He clarified as his brows rose. “Just you and me, and two plane tickets to anywhere else.” He wanted to leave more than anything. There wasn’t any written rule that said they couldn’t. “If we run into trouble, we’ll solve it but just even for a week...” He trailed off, looking down again as his brows pulled together. So much had happened. He just wanted to breath again. “Just.. We owe it to ourselves to take a real break once in a while.”
