REAL SHARE TIME: These past few weeks, I’ve taken on playing in the subway every day as a main source of income. It’s been challenging and what I’ve learned thus far is I don’t particularly like structure. I’ve failed at showing up a few times, been pretty late to the time I agreed to myself, and worried about the health of my voice, but I have been so blown away. When I play for 2-3 hours, I actually make around $100. Sometimes way more sometimes a little less, but I have never had to be so consistent in my life. To be fed, dressed for performance, warmed up and arrive on time—it’s a work in progress. But it’s incredibly empowering to see money from sharing my gift happening in real time. I’ve never done this with such consistency before and I’m completely moved by being with the people of NYC. THANK YOU FOR THIS JOURNEY SO FAR.
