The mage actually snorted, both at the woman’s tone and casual attitude at being-clearly-overheard without her realizing it. Her tone was just a bit too casual, he thought amusedly, as she made a point of going back to sharpening one of her blades.

Raethor didn’t much like physical sparring; given his powers, the actual possibility of needing  to use a blade was…slim to none, really. But it was no excuse to grow lax, he thought, sheathing the lcurved, slightly glowing blade he carried and picking up his shirt from where he had discarded it at some point during his training.No point dirtying perfectly good silk, was there?

He sauntered off to where Rynn sat, shirt still draped over his shoulder, still unworn. “For the record, you’re holding that whetstone wrong side up,Rynn,” he breathed into her ear, her name uttered softly like a caress, as he walked past, grinning when his back was to her.

Even though she dare not turn to look, she could sense him moving behind her. Of course she wanted to sneak another glance at his well-kept form, but that would bring the already arrogant mage far too much satisfaction. Instead, she focused very intently on the task she’d chosen to distract herself with.

And then there he was, leaning over her, his bare torso far too close for her to not notice. And then there was his voice, whispering in her ear, breath warm on the skin, her name spoken as if by a lover. It sent shivers down her spine that she hoped he didn’t see. He was doing this on purpose, and she knew it - but she wouldn’t dare let him know how it got to her. Gods, how long had it been since someone had said her name like that?

As she actually registered what his comment had said, however, Rynn cursed under her breath. Real smooth, Rynn - couldn’t even make your bluff believable. Well, she’d never hear the end of that one. Might as well lean into it she supposed.

“You may have distracted me, but don’t pretend you didn’t just whisper in my ear like that on purpose.” A smirk as she looked after him, flipping the whetstone over. “You love it just as much as I do, we might as well not be liars, then, hmm?”
