I wish I could’ve done more.
Regret is perhaps the worst feeling that you could ever feel or experience in life. And it is something that is hard to get rid of. You had to live with the fact that you can’t do anything to return back time and relive the past. And though those mistakes that you did a long time ago is already done and over, you still find yourself confined with it.
What can we do if we find ourselves in a situation wherein we feel the intense pain from the past and can’t seem to move on from our mistakes? A lot of people might have these questions popping in their heads. But there are a lot of things that you can do to free yourself from these unwanted feelings.
Talk to someone you trust your feelings to. It may not solve everything but it can lessen the weight that you are carrying. Someone who has enough mental space to listen. But if you can’t find someone to talk to, try to go for a walk outside and do some light exercises. Eventually you’ll meet strangers along the way whom you can vent out to if they strike a conversation. Avoid playing those scenarios in your head over and over. Instead, make new memories. Find a new hobby to keep your mind off of these negative thoughts. Some people even depend on alcohol or smoking but it’s not something I would recommend if you want to do it on a daily basis as it highly affects your health. Do something you haven’t tried before and focus on healthier options. And most of all, FORGIVE YOURSELF. It’s going to be a gradual change but progress is still progress — whether it may be big or small.
Not only you will heal, you will also outgrow from everything that hinders you to become better and happier. Things will eventually turn out well for you if you put an effort to it. Always hold on to that hope and believe that you are capable of doing wonderful things. Only then you can bid goodbye to the thought that “I wish I could’ve done more” because you did more than what is expected. Always give credits to yourself for every step that you make because you are worth it!
