Lysistrata at The County Theatre featuring Blanche Yorka, Photo by Fred Crum.
Local young women were recruited for the Greek chorus of this play. Eleanor Suffern is second to the right of Blanche Yorka.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Fred Crum took weekly publicity pictures for The County Theatre, a summer playhouse in the cow barn on the Suffern estate of Robert Cutler, where the Indian Rock Shopping Center on Route 59 is today. Among the prominent actors and actresses that he photographed were Helen Hayes, Edward Everett Horton, Jose Ferrer, Libby Holman, Arlene Francis and William Eythe.

Blanche Yorka was a formidable actress best known for her performance as Madame De Farge in the 1935 film adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities. Unfortunately the Academy Awards would not begin to recognize supporting performances until the following year, an award many believe she would have been a shoe-in to win.
