My Grace Is Sufficient

Feeling like your weaknesses disqualify you from being used by God?

God doesn't use you despite your weaknesses - He uses you because of them.

2 Corinthians 12:9 reveals this beautiful paradox: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."

Paul begged God three times to remove his "thorn in the flesh," but God's response changed everything.

"My grace is sufficient" means you already have everything you need. "Power made perfect in weakness" means your limitations become God's opportunities.

That insecurity you're ashamed of? God wants to show His confidence through it. That struggle you're hiding? He wants to display His strength in it. That area where you feel inadequate? He wants to prove His adequacy through you.

When you're weak, you stop relying on yourself and start depending on Him. When you're broken, His light shines through the cracks. When you're insufficient, His sufficiency becomes obvious.

Stop apologizing for your weaknesses and start celebrating how they showcase God's incredible power.

Today, let your weaknesses become the stage for His strength.

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.  2 Corinthians 12:9-10

The apostle Paul had what he called a "thorn in the flesh". It appeared to be a physical condition that he suffered from. He states that he sought God three times about it, asking to be delivered from it. He had gone about being used by God to heal others; surely he could expect to be healed himself!

God's answer was not what he expected. Instead of healing, God gave him the grace to endure the condition, so that the power of God might be seen in him all the more. Furthermore, Paul knew his potential for pride and understood that this condition kept him humble and therefore more useful and usable by God.

Thank God for putting it in the heart of Paul to be so transparent. It serves to remind us that sometimes we can bring more glory to God in our illness than if he healed us. Our desire should be to glorify him in whatever state we are in. Many are those whose illness, weakness, or tragedy spawned a whole new ministry to others!

The God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. — He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Just because your illness is lingering or your breakthrough seems far away doesn't mean that you have done something wrong, your faith is weak, or you are out of the will of God.

The apostle Paul sought God three times about a problem, asking God to remove it. It is believed it was a physical ailment. We know Paul to be a man of faith, that he yielded to the will of God in his life. Yet, in spite of this, God did not give him release from the problem he was experiencing.

Instead, God let Paul know he would give him the grace he needed to endure the affliction so that God's power could be seen all the more in his life. Paul's consistent testimony in spite of his trials caused others who were facing trials to turn to Christ and opened the door to greater opportunities to witness.

God is able to use our weakness to bring glory to his name and further his kingdom. It is not about who we are but rather who he is. His power is seen more clearly in our weakness!

The Power of God

The Apostle Paul had been beset by an affliction of some kind. He had been used of God to heal others, so much so that even when cloths taken from him were put on the sick, they were healed. He sought God three times for healing, but God gave him the grace to endure it instead.

Paul gives us insight into why he was afflicted:

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 2 Corinthians 12:7

Paul understood that his affliction was so that he would not become prideful and God's power would be seen in him all the more.

Sometimes, God is more glorified by our shining for him in the midst of our suffering than by our healing. His grace shines through when we, appearing weak, wax strong in the calling he places on us. We are to live for his glory, not our comfort!
