If we could see molecules with our naked eyes, I’d hope that they’d be as exciting to watch as Ora The Molecule is titillating to listen to. We’ve “bonded” inextricably with the experimental pop act over songs like Sugar and Samurai. An attractive force has created a cohesive link between us and the Andalusia based collective’s eccentric electronica and whimsical pop. Three days ago, Ora The Molecule released their debut EP, Sugar, on which they shared a brand new track named A Piece Of Heaven. The sonic troupe goes heavy on 80s throwback vibes with the song, reeling us in with elastic synths and luscious vocals. A Piece Of Heaven reminds me of early Niki and The Dove, but seething with Kavinsky’s nocturnal heat, infused with the snappy guitar of Nile Rodgers, and permeated with Ora The Molecule’s quirky slant. A Piece Of Heaven was inspired by the Maya Angelou quote: “Courage is the most important of all virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.” The collective elucidates: “This song is an attempt to fight social anxiet... It takes courage to share yourself and the song is an attempt to motivate you to share your thoughts and create stories in yours and other people’s lives. The lyrics advocate that you can create heaven on earth if you decide to and not to be afraid of taking the first step towards it.” Ora The Molecule’s Sugar EP is a radical tale exploring an illogical humanity from the perspective of an outsider with each track tackling subjects of consumption, procrastination, hedonism and ambition. “They’re songs about human behaviour trapped in counterintuitive society. It tries to depict reality seen by an alien coming to earth for the first time.” Stream the full EP, here. Ora The Molecule will be supporting Young The Giant on select dates in September across the UK and EU.
