“Sugar Teeth” by Tangerine: EP Review
The groundhog saw his shadow, El Nino is still lingering, and the days are getting longer. It’s spring time (or fall for some) and Tangerine has the perfect soundtrack to accompany the little dance you’ll be doing as you turn your clock back one hour this Sunday night.
Sugar Teeth, the fourth EP of the Seattle trio, lives up to its name. Bouncy, upbeat, twangy, and grin-inducing - Tangerine hit the nail on the head with this one. Reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, Tangerine has a folksy dream-like feel with the tempo of a Vivian Girls’s track stirred right in.
There are unexpected breakdowns throughout the album, such as the slow paced dip at the tail end of “Wild At Heart”. It’s a nice escape from the predictable trap pop can often fall into, but they play a fair balance between being catchy and innovative - the real key to a pop album and a promising note on this EP.
If you’re looking to start crafting the perfect summer soundtrack, consider buying Sugar Teeth and throw some tracks into the mix. And while you’re at it, make a spot in your calendar for their spring 2016 USA tour kicking off this weekend.
