Sugar-Coated | Luna & Rosemary

Irksome. That was the best word Luna could use to describe a girl like Rosemary Collins. Luna had met few uppity humans in her life, but after meeting the horrid hurricane of a girl, Luna had little desire to encounter another. She was such a precocious little creature, talking with a bravado that far surpassed her nineteen years of life and speaking out of place like she was anything but lowly.

But, despite Luna’s many objection’s to the redhead’s obnoxious personality, something far greater hovered in the back of her mind. Rosemary Collins was dangerous.The Unseelie King had made it clear his view on humans, and the procreation of humans and fae. In the eyes of the Unseelie court, it was an abomination. In public Luna was quick to deny Rosemary’s claims, implying the girl had questionable virtue and had become obsessively enamored with Finn. But, in truth Luna knew her brother. And this disaster certainly was not outside of his wheelhouse.

King Oberon had always liked the Crow twins, his cousins. He had always made it clear to them, and the court that he viewed them as loyal servants. Even in youth Oberon found more fun in making them accomplices to his cruelty than victims. But, the King was known to be someone with an ever-shifting move. It would surely not be the first time one of his favorites had fallen out of favor. To fall out of favor with the King was to lose everything.

So far, the Crow’s open dismissal of the claims had been enough to keep the King’s wrath away. But, Luna feared catching Oberon in a particularly bad mood could one day change everything. And she was under no misconceptions that their shared blood would save them should Oberon decide to punish them for Finn’s indiscretion.

All these thoughts swirled in her head as she awaited her most unwelcomed guest, stirring her tea anxiously, long after the spoonful of sugar she added had dissolved. If there was one thing Luna loathed it was playing nice to those she did not care to be nice to. But, as long as Queen Titania was enjoying her new pet, the girl was nearly untouchable. Nearly.
