the most monday monday

finn and fall came over on friday and we talked all manner of nonsense at my kitchen table. finn baked cookies in my oven. i appreciate every one of these fridays that i get

saturday, i spent the night in grant park within roaring distance of the lions. we laughed so much, it was a good day

last night, i dreamt of a hamburger that turned to sand in my hands as soon as i tried to take a bite. and one of another sort from my usual, i dreamt of a dark gap on the edge of a dense green wood. i knew i had to go inside and then i knew i would never come out again

for lunch today, i had a bowl of curried beef and lentil stew topped with crispy bits of roasted sweet potato. it warmed me up after a morning outside in the cold damp

these days, all my thoughts are winter thoughts

Sugarplummed Review: The Season's Unexpected Gem

Janel Parrish and Maggie Lawson are incredible in delivering a heartfelt, deliciously meta Christmas movie in Hallmark's Sugarplummed.

Hallmark’s Sugarplummed is an unexpected treasure trove of heart, humor, and delightfully meta storytelling. Judging by the premise and the trailer, I expected this one to merely be a silly cookie-cutter, but imagine my surprise when I got teary-eyed at multiple points.

Janel Parrish and Maggie Lawson are an adorable match made in friendship heaven, and now, like the many Sugarplummed films that exist in this fake universe, I need multiple sequels of this one. In many ways, the film is about reconnecting to our roots, slowing down, and learning how to truly listen. Emily is so desperate to give her family the perfect Christmas that she essentially forgets what their perfection looks like. Still, she makes a wish on a star, and the Christmas Mary Poppins, which I didn’t know we needed, Sugarplum appears.
