❝You know Paris is beautiful at this time of year.❞

No second after the grating sound of a dial tone buzzing in her ear eases out, she’s welcomed with a spectral-like silence. An eerie silence that leaves her scarcely concerned–bearing in mind that quietude has not, nor will it ever be expected from Soojung. When it begins, Ji finds comfort in the distant shuffling–and it doesn’t take long for the detective to recognize that the noisy shambling is actually motions from the girl on the other end of the phone.
“Hello?”
It’s disembodied but requires no effort to distinguish the individual behind it. Soojung speaks in a singsong kind of way this time, but there’s a noticeable chroma–a trace of lingering somnolence weighing at her inflection. Simultaneously as Ji works her way into the loose, but secure nest of her blanket, she takes her cellphone prisoner between her ear and shoulder.
Thirty minutes after a hesitant, but sincere apology for keeping Soojung awake at 2.41AM, and seemingly boundless rants / complains about how the detective feels as though her gestures and effort(s) are ‘unappreciated’ (A.K.A: their typical midnight-speaking sessions.)–Soojung commences a new chapter. A new area put under discussion, but manages to maintain it related to their initial focus. “Maybe you should take a vacation.” Dejected upon hearing the brusque snort Ji opts for, she persists on. “..with me, maybe?”
“–tell me where I’m going to get the time for a vacation.” “Beats me. We could just elope, you know.”
By the tremulous intonations, Soojung is by now certain that Ji’s facial expression is graced with something–less than–a smile, despite that it isn’t materialized before her. “You’re getting loopy, I think you should go back to sleep.” The older among the two insists, receiving a caustic drone from the latter, shortly followed by a reply impertinent to Ji’s subtle demand. “You know Paris is beautiful at this time of year.” — “Goodnight, Sooj.”
