im glad you're talking about this bc i feel like so often people's knee jerk response to this extremely valid concern is just "shut the fuck up liberal" and like... self-defense is one thing but the near fetishization of violence for violence's sake is entirely another that i see way too much

it’s very worrying to me and i just can’t ignore how it is a near mirror image of the right’s obsession of violence, and as much as people do not want to hear it there comes a point where yeah we do have to be better people, and being a better person means trying to put things in place in society that lessens violence in the world and makes it morally reprehensible act to do to another human being
