Sullivan Galleries Public Receptions
September 19 will bring the public receptions for both current shows at the Sullivan Galleries: the Faculty Projects exhibit, and new work show entitled "Surface Tension."
FACULTY PROJECTS is an annual exhibition that presents work by SAIC faculty who have recently returned from sabbatical leave. While the artists featured vary in media, practice and production, each work on view is connected through the artist’s participation as part of the SAIC community. By sharing their current work, faculty show how their research, projects, and work contribute to the local, national, and international art and design community. Curated by Assistant Director of Exhibitions Morgan Walsh (Dual MA 2012).
Featuring work by Claudia Hart, Anke Loh, Lou Mallozzi, Helen Maria Nugent, Carolyn Ottmers, Roxie Tremonto, and Andrew S. Yang.
SURFACE TENSION presents new work by current students selected through portfolio reviews by the SAIC Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies Committee. Through critical and exploratory approaches to material and making, the artists in this exhibition investigate the poetic potential of erasure, the physical limits of a medium, the stability of the body and the politics of viewership. They resist, respond to and redefine their environments, complicating and calling into question the strength of the surface and what lies underneath. Curated by Graduate Curatorial Assistants Cassie Carpenter (Dual MA 2015) and Elisabeth Smith (Dual MA 2015) with Curatorial Assistant Taylor Hughes (BA 2016).
