The legend of the Sumerian Flood - Enki leaks secrets of the gods
Enlil, the supreme god of Sumer, does not hesitate to carry out the decision of the council of the gods: the destruction of humankind by a great flood. However, Enki hesitated to exterminate humans, believing that "we don't need to flood, we just need to reduce the number of humans".
Thus Enki told the deluge in advanceonly to the pious and modest King Ziusudra.
Enki, too, was part of the decision-making council that decided on the Flood, so he did not tell Ziusudra directly, out of concern for the other gods, but leaked the secret indirectly through the wall.
There was a great flood. All but a few people and animals, including King Ziusudra, are destroyed.
But this was not the end of the world. The Flood destroyed the primordial humans, so the world was cleansed and a new world came into being. It became the Sumerians' 'world of today'. The Legend of the Flood is not a story of despair ending in the destruction of humankind, but a story of resurrection and renewal.

シュメールの大洪水伝説〜神々の秘密を漏洩したエンキ
シュメールの最高神であるエンリルは神々の会議で決定した「大洪水による人間の滅尽」をためらわず実行する。しかし、エンキは「洪水など起こさずとも、人間を減らすだけでよい」と考え、人間を絶滅させることをためらった。
こうしてエンキは、信心深く、慎みのあるジウスドラ王にだけは前もって大洪水を告げた。
エンキもまた、大洪水を下す決定会議に参加していたので、他の神々を憚って直接ジウスドラに告げたりはせず、壁を通じて間接的に機密を漏洩した。
大洪水が起きた。ジウスドラ王を含めてごくわずかの人間と動物以外は滅ぼされてしまう。
だが、これで世界は終わりではなかった。大洪水が原初の人間たちを滅ぼしたので、世界は浄化され、新しい世の中が訪れた。シュメール人の「今の世界」になった。『大洪水伝説』は人間の滅亡で終わる絶望の物語ではなく、復活再生につながる物語なのである。
