Summer Bride

My summer bride dances in the fields And in her hair a blinding sunshine yields Her laughter is wind that soothes & chimes She gives praise with love for her time My summer bride oh how I love her so She is my life & lifts me from lows/

A beautiful creature, face covered with lace She fills me with warmth & her sweet taste  I see her adorned with dying colors of spring And accents warm like a long evening Her beauty and grace burns like a radiant sun With a shine so bright, in comparison to none./

My summer bride dies as the seasons change She wants for not and says this come with age My summer bride, oh how I longed her to stay It always made me sad when she went away My days filled with laughter, now dry and dull As the seasons became colder so too did my soul/

So I stole my summer bride the last hour before fall I could no longer bear to face the loneliness of it all And my summer bride changed as the season died Something I knew would come but always denied/

Her smile became dry, eyes as gray as the sky Her golden hair had faded to a eerie snow white Her laughter was gone, she danced no more Her star eclipsed with the darkness of remorse I kept her longer than she should have ever stayed For my summer bride turned cold when winter came/

My summer bride changes as the seasons die But she tells me she’s always been dead inside She says she was never a sun but always a moon In the dark with light of a star shining through How everything was an illusion, nothing was ever real And I became her sun when she could no longer feel/

Oh my summer bride, she was never really mine But I would do anything to bring back her shine To steal a piece from the moon or even to tear me in two I would still love her all the same. This I know to be true.
