Decorating With Sunflowers...Pillows & Decor Ideas
Hi All,
When I think of long summery days in the country, one of the first things that pop into my head are big, beautiful sunflowers.
I love these guys and plant them in my garden every year. I have even incorporated them into my decor.
I have been dressing up my front porch the past few weeks and wanted some new throw pillows for my porch swing.

I found these really cute Sunflower Pillows from Through the Country Door but did not want to spend nearly $80.00 for both. I decided to be frugal and make my own.

I started with a 5′ X 4.8′ Canvas Drop Cloth I picked up at my local home improvement store for $5.98.
I cut out 4 large squares of equal size, sewed them into pillows, added zippers and then painted a few cheerful sunflowers on them. I finished by inserting a pillow form into each one.
I painted the pillows with regular craft paint mixed with Textile medium . The textile medium makes the paint permanent, flexible and washable without running.

If you are creative with a paintbrush, sunflowers can be painted on many things for your home. They are very easy to paint and can really cheer up a room.
Simple 4″ kitchen tiles can be transformed into Sunflower Coasters with glass and ceramic paint found at your local craft store.
Larger tiles can be crafted into Sunflower Trivets for your kitchen. If you are not really crafty you can also purchase them already done on my website.
Toast To Summer With Sunflowers
Toast to summer with a few hand painted sunflower wine glasses. Perfect for parties, a country wedding or relaxing on the porch on a warm summer evening.
Some freshly picked sunflowers placed in a vintage milk bottle or canning jar makes for a great country centerpiece. I found these beauties in the floral department of my grocery store.
Take it one step further with a hand painted sunflower vase.
Here’s another sweet sunflower pillow from my line of handmade pillows….
And who could resist this adorable personalized sunflower pillow?
When warm weather beckons and you want to bring the outdoors in, think sunflowers! Thanks so much for visiting today. I hope you have been inspired. ~Lisa

Summer Decorating With Sunflowers
Embrace Summer In The Country By Decorating With Sunflowers
Summer is in full swing here in eastern North Carolina and boy it has been HOT! One of my favorite summer flowers is the sunflower and I love to incorporate them into my summer decorating. Every year I attempt to grow a few of my own sunflowers in my garden and sometimes I get lucky enough to see a few grow up. In our former house I could grow sunflowers that grew to be about 6 feet tall but for some reason I haven’t had much luck with them in our current home. They usually only grow to about 2-3 feet. I don’t think they like my soil.
Sitting on my porch swing is a pair of two hand painted sunflower pillows I made from a canvas drop cloth. I love them.
Right next to my front door hangs a cheerful hanging planter filled with an arrangement of silk sunflowers. I don’t have to worry about forgetting to water them and they always stay looking great.
If you love decorating with sunflowers you don’t necessarily have to work with the “real thing”. These gorgeous sunflowers in my front garden are actually fake! My Mom bought them for me on sale at Hobby Lobby last summer. Local craft stores usually have an abundance of realistic looking silk sunflowers in the summer and they are great additions to a country inspired home. The more realistic they look the more expensive they will be so wait for them to go on sale or you have a great coupon.
If you are looking to add some sunflower inspired decor to your home this summer you may not have to look further than your local grocery store. I bought this pretty bouquet in the floral department of my local Lowe’s Foods. They have a great selection of reasonably priced fresh flower bouquets. They look so pretty placed in an old milk bottle in my country cottage kitchen.
Whether you grow some in your garden or purchase some sunflower inspired decor for your home, decorating with sunflowers is a wonderful way to add Country charm to your home this summer.
Thanks so much for visiting today.
