Summer Self Portrait...Tanya Luca
Mount Martha, January 2020

People listen to specific songs & albums during events so that in the future, their brain remembers the event whenever they listen to the song again in the future.
For me, this is Frank Ocean’s music.
Except I didn’t do it on purpose. And now whenever I listen to Frank Ocean I remember that summer when I desperately wanted to make memories with my friends, and wanted to grow up, and wanted to be liked. It was when I had different friends, and when I had more friends. I wasn’t tired like I am now, and I wasn’t sad like I feel now when I listen to Frank Ocean.
That summer, we all drove along the rocky, narrow path towards the ocean. The music was loud on the speakers and the windows were down. The ocean breeze played in my hair and held onto my sundress. The sun was bright and warm, and the weather was absolutely perfect. The only reason I had to feel sad was because I knew eventually our vacation would be over.
