This picture is so very Wellington. Suburbs of houses cascading down hills, garages nested into every opportunity, white fences along road edges, power lines strung like fairy lights, roads snaking in swirling shapes, the toylike coloured wooden houses, ubiquitous agapanthus along the footpath. Flowers, trees, blues, greens, an earned view. And I remember. 1. I used to run this hill. A long time ago. 13 years ago I'd run up, up, up. God damn it was hard. I could run for 22 minutes and it was with my discman. Lesson: some days it feels as hard as it ever was, but the results and positive impact improves. 2. I can move today! I couldn't yesterday, or the day before that (hashtag summer colds are cruel), and I valued my health differently today. Lesson: treasure this and hold it close. Value it. Prioritise it. It's kinder to keep healthy than to put yourself back together again. 3. I aim to be better than yesterday. Life becomes the sum of the every day moments. Lesson: Carve out space for the important things. Do it daily. Know the direction you're going in. Eliminate the noise. Check, adjust course, dust yourself off, continue. #musings #summerloves #blueskies #cicadasymphony
