Equinox! And a vernal one at that.
At last, Skrillex (aka Sonny Moore)—who pretty much wrote the book on complextro—has dropped the highly anticipated new track. It opens, unsurprisingly, with his signature chopped-up chipmunk vocals, über-wonky bass and a piano line that’s suspiciously saccharine… aaaannnnnnnd then everything takes a sudden, violent turn less than a minute in.
Post-drop, ‘Equinox’ sounds like a digital apocalypse—Moore's own sonic interpretation of robot takeover; of human obliteration. He layers some of his most aggressive samples to date—screeches and shrieks that are machine-gunned into our ears and yet, they're somehow enjoyable.
The ONLY way to dance to this is to convulse.
