Healing

Someone once asked me, ‘What makes you happy?’ 

In that moment my heart had been encased in such pain and hurt. After struggling through the darkness for so long and a thought or two of a way to leave. So I wouldn’t have to feel so bloody much, care so bloody much. Most of all so I wouldn’t understand painfully so much why they did what they did. So I would feel more present in life after the past few moments of living through it, from the back seat while my body auto-pilots, its way through the days. While my mind is far away, replaying everything in the hopes, I could comprehend what had occurred. I hoped everyday that I would wake up and the heaviness I carried around in my heart, would evaporate one day. 

That question shocked me, ‘What makes me happy?’ I wondered. The first thought sadly was; ‘I don’t know’. However the answer finally came, ‘I am not unhappy, quite content in my life but...for so long, I had been putting others happiness before mine, I had forgotten what I did to be happy’. So rather than chasing people for attention, I found my own worth. Day by day passed quickly, I woke up and realized that the weight, I had carried for so long had evaporated. If I had not chosen to leave what happened in the past or my own actions, I would be still trapped in that cycle. Now I have chosen to not care what other’s think and to be happy in my own company as I would be in my friend’s or families company. I chose to spare some kindness, understanding and empathy, I had so readily given to others for myself. 

Strange, now the healing process can be such a slow trek but when you’ve finally reached your destination, worth it. Would I want to do that again? Hell nah. Do appreciate it nonetheless? Of course.
