MUSICIANS ARE NOT TOLERATED!

I’m currently on holidays on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. As I have very little money but still want to go and experience the area, I’d thought I’d take my guitar and musical talent to the streets, but before doing so I thought I should check out the local laws about busking. After extensive research and a few phone calls I discovered that I need a street performers permit. Ok, cool. How do I get one of those? Oh no, you have to submit recording or samples of your artwork to the council for approval. Ok, cool. I’ll send them a link to my soundcloud, that should do the trick. No, all the spots are booked out and can’t apply for a spot until 1st of July.  If you ask any of the locals, they will tell you that in any of the towns on any given day, they will tell you that there is rarely buskers on the streets performing. So if this is the case why are all the spots booked out? Who is “booking” them out, if there are spots available in the first place? 

I was completely happy to pay the $43 license application fee. It’s not like I was trying to do anything highly illegal. Apparently there is a minimum $500 fine for busking without a permit. yet if I speed in a school zone it’s more like $300. This doesn’t make sense.

I’ve since been told it is a similar case on the Gold Coast.

What are the local, state and federal governments doing to local music and art?  If you’re a member for one of these councils and reading this, FUCK YOU!
